I am a classically-trained violinist and aspiring Irish fiddle player based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
I grew up playing the classical violin. Although I didn't pursue music through college, I began to pick my violin back up in my early twenties. I stumbled into teaching my first student out of pure happenstance and quickly discovered that teaching violin was something I wanted to pursue further.
Over the past year, I have pivoted from classical music and have begun learning the Irish fiddle by ear. I currently study fiddle under Katie Grennan of Gaelic Storm and have taken courses with Liz Knowles to improve my study of Irish fiddle. Although my journey into traditional Irish music is young, I am loving every moment of it. Additionally, I'm currently pursuing a Music Industry Essentials Certificate through NYU's Tisch School of Music.
I teach students of all ages (seriously... you are never too old to learn how to play!) as beginners. I combine classical music education with learning-by-ear, while incorporating additional age-appropriate activities (such as games and worksheets) when teaching my students. I believe that we learn best when we enjoy what we are doing, so I encourage my students to set goals, find music they want to learn, and I introduce a variety of different styles of music into their education. I teach both in-person and virtually.
I do not only work with my students one hour per week during their lessons. I provide practice videos and resources, and try to be available to answer questions or give guidance between their lessons too.
I also believe that no single person can teach everything and encourage my students to participate in workshops, youth orchestras, and other musical opportunities to help them grow. When possible, I participate alongside them!
If you or your child have ever considered learning the violin, now is the perfect time! From 5 to 85 (and beyond), I want to help you realize your dream of making music. Let's work together to achieve your goals!
